TMC MP defends chemicals panel role in House committee reshuffle

Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar said there was no contradiction in her accepting the position of chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Chemicals and Fertilisers, addressing concerns raised about her eligibility for the role.
The TMC member was selected during a reshuffle of House committees that saw several positions reassigned among MPs from various parties. The committee oversees matters related to the chemicals and fertilisers sector, which falls under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers.
Dastidar's appointment has drawn scrutiny, with some questioning whether her party affiliation or other factors posed potential conflicts. However, the MP maintained that accepting the committee chair was entirely appropriate and aligned with her parliamentary responsibilities.
The reshuffle reflects the standard practice of rotating committee positions among legislators across different party groups. Multiple MPs received new committee assignments as part of the exercise.
