TMC stages protest in Kolkata demanding official's resignation

Trinamool Congress activists mounted a vociferous protest in Kolkata's Rajabazar locality on Wednesday, escalating pressure over calls for an official's removal. The demonstration follows similar agitations in the national capital, reflecting growing discontent within the party ranks.

Workers assembled in the commercial area chanting slogans demanding the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar. Party activists carried placards and raised their voices against what they characterized as administrative failures, drawing support from local members.

The TMC had organized a march intended to proceed from Rajabazar to Park Circus, a route that would have carried the protest through densely populated commercial districts. However, Kolkata Police intervened and halted the procession, citing the absence of requisite permits for the demonstration.

Officials stated that organizers had not obtained prior authorization for the march, leading law enforcement to restrict the gathering to the initial assembly point. The incident reflects ongoing tensions surrounding administrative decisions and accountability measures within state government circles.
