KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia's national utility provider has unveiled a tiered electricity relief programme designed to ease the burden on residential consumers across the country.

Under the initiative, TNB customers whose monthly consumption reaches 800 kilowatt-hours or below will receive full exemptions from their electricity bills. Households exceeding this threshold will benefit from pro-rata credits applied to their accounts, ensuring broader relief across consumer segments.

The scheme represents a significant intervention in the domestic power sector, targeting millions of Malaysian households reliant on TNB's distribution network. The move comes as authorities seek to manage cost-of-living pressures affecting households nationwide.

TNB has not immediately disclosed the duration of the relief programme or additional eligibility criteria. The utility company serves approximately 9.6 million customers across Peninsular Malaysia and Labuan, making the initiative's reach substantial across the region's residential base.

The announcement underscores government and corporate efforts to provide targeted financial relief to domestic consumers during an extended period of economic adjustment.
