Major tobacco companies saw notable share price increases in trading, with Godfrey Phillips posting the strongest gains. The rally reflected broader investor interest in the sector.

Shares of India's leading tobacco manufacturers climbed during market trading, signaling renewed investor confidence in the sector. Godfrey Phillips topped the gainers with a 2.29 per cent increase, while ITC, the country's largest cigarette manufacturer by market capitalisation, rose 1.5 per cent. VST Industries, another key player in the space, advanced 0.8 per cent.

The simultaneous gains across multiple tobacco stocks suggest broad-based buying interest rather than company-specific developments. The sector has remained a focus for investors seeking dividend yields and established market positions despite regulatory headwinds and excise pressures that have characterised the Indian tobacco market in recent years.

Tobacco stocks have traditionally attracted institutional and retail investors seeking stable cash flows and regular dividend distributions. However, the sector continues to navigate challenges including periodic tax increases, plain packaging regulations, and shifting consumer preferences toward reduced-risk products.

The modest single-day gains underscored the stock market's volatile nature, though they reflected underlying investor appetite for established consumer goods companies with strong balance sheets and market presence across the region.
