Tokyo is set to introduce an unconventional tourist attraction merging sightseeing with casual dining when a specially designed sightseeing bus equipped with a conveyor-belt sushi system launches on October 10.
The double-decker vehicle represents a novel approach to experiencing Japan's popular kaiten sushi tradition whilst touring the capital's landmarks. Passengers will be able to select sushi plates from a rotating belt whilst enjoying views of Tokyo's streets from the bus windows.
To ensure safety and practicality during transit, the bus will utilise specially designed plastic trays that secure sushi plates to the moving belt, preventing dishes from sliding or falling as the vehicle navigates city roads. The system allows diners to enjoy fresh sushi whilst remaining seated throughout the journey.
The initiative reflects Tokyo's continued innovation in merging food culture with tourism experiences, offering visitors and residents alike a distinctive way to sample traditional Japanese cuisine. The launch comes as Japan's tourism sector continues to diversify its offerings to attract international and domestic travellers seeking memorable dining experiences.
