Tokyo Marathon winner Aga suspended over doping violations
Ethiopian runner Ruti Aga, victor of the 2019 Tokyo Marathon, has been provisionally suspended following detection of a banned substance in her system. The Athletics Integrity Unit also cited tampering allegations in its enforcement action.

The Athletics Integrity Unit announced the provisional suspension of Aga on Thursday, citing the presence or use of methylprednisolone, a prohibited substance under World Athletics rules. The decision marks a significant development in the career of the accomplished distance runner, who claimed victory at one of Asia's most prestigious marathon events five years ago.
Beyond the substance violation, the AIU's action also encompasses allegations of tampering with the doping control process. Such charges represent serious breaches of anti-doping protocols and can result in extended sanctions beyond those imposed for substance violations alone.
The provisional suspension means Aga is barred from competing pending the outcome of a full investigation and disciplinary proceedings.
