Police in Maguindanao del Sur conducted a pre-dawn operation that resulted in the killing of Amar Sansawi Usman, also known as Akhie, alongside an unidentified companion in Ampatuan municipality. Col. John Michael Mangahis, the provincial police director, confirmed the deaths occurred on Sunday, November 8, following what authorities described as an exchange of gunfire.

According to police accounts, the operation was initiated when officers moved to apprehend the suspects, who were allegedly wanted in connection with the Dawlah Islamiyah militant organization. The police director indicated that the suspects resisted arrest and engaged responding lawmen in combat, precipitating the fatal confrontation.

Usman had been designated as the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao's most wanted fugitive at the time of the operation. The incident marks a significant development in law enforcement efforts targeting extremist elements active in the restive southern Philippine region.
