MANILA — The Supreme Court's Second Division has rejected an appeal from an airport security officer dismissed for demanding P5,000 from a passenger, underscoring the judiciary's stance on ethical standards in government service.
Associate Justice Marvic M.V.F. Leonen, writing for the division, found no reversible error in the Court of Appeals' decision to uphold the officer's termination. The ruling affirmed findings from the National Civil Service Commission that the security personnel had violated conduct standards.
The court emphasized that integrity cannot be compromised in public office, regardless of the amount involved in misconduct cases. Officials entrusted with security responsibilities face particularly strict accountability requirements, the division noted.
