MANILA — Key members of the Senate have expressed support for the Supreme Court's dismissal of a petition questioning the validity of the June 3 session that resulted in Alan Peter Cayetano's ouster as Senate President.

In a resolution dated August 26, the high court rejected the legal challenge filed by lawyers Valeriano Loon and Zigfred Diaz against the proceedings that took place on that date.

The Supreme Court's action effectively cleared the way for the controversial session to stand as legitimate, addressing concerns raised by petitioners who had sought to invalidate the proceedings on legal grounds.

The June 3 session proved pivotal in the Senate's internal leadership dynamics, with the voting ultimately leading to Cayetano's removal from the top post. The court's decision to uphold the session's legality represents a significant development in resolving the institutional dispute.

The backing from majority senators underscores their view that proper procedures were followed during the contentious June 3 gathering, putting to rest legal questions that had lingered since the leadership change occurred.
