A powerful tornado tore through parts of Ilocos Sur province on Monday afternoon, Aug. 31, affecting at least three towns in the region. The twister struck with particular force in Cabugao town around 5 p.m., where footage captured by residents showed severe winds ripping roofing materials from houses and carrying debris across residential areas.
The tornado's path caused visible damage to structures in its wake, with roof panels and other building materials scattered throughout affected neighborhoods. Residents documented the incident on video, which showed the intensity of winds that caught portions of houses and lifted them into the air.
Provincial authorities reported no deaths or injuries from the weather event, though damage assessments were ongoing. The tornado marks another severe weather incident in the region as the Philippines continues to experience active atmospheric conditions during the monsoon season.
