Toyota to launch flex-fuel Innova in October with ultra-low running costs

Toyota is preparing to launch a flex-fuel version of its popular Innova multipurpose vehicle in October, featuring technology that significantly reduces fuel costs for Indian consumers. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari confirmed he has received an invitation from the automobile manufacturer for the vehicle's unveiling.

The flex-fuel Innova will be capable of running on 100 per cent ethanol, a renewable fuel derived from agricultural sources. This represents a significant step toward sustainable mobility solutions in India's automotive sector, aligning with government initiatives to promote ethanol-based vehicles.

According to Gadkari, the running cost of the ethanol-powered vehicle will be approximately equivalent to ₹25 per litre of petrol, making it considerably more economical than conventional petrol or diesel variants. This cost advantage addresses a key consumer concern in India's automotive market, where fuel expenses constitute a substantial portion of vehicle ownership costs.

The launch of the flex-fuel Innova comes as India continues to encourage the adoption of alternative fuels to reduce dependence on imported crude oil and lower vehicular emissions. The multipurpose vehicle segment remains one of India's largest automotive categories, with the Innova maintaining strong market presence across commercial and private segments.
