Workers who have changed employers multiple times often accumulate several Employee Provident Fund accounts without realizing it, fragmenting their retirement savings across different records. The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation has simplified the process of identifying and consolidating these accounts through a centralized system linked to the Universal Account Number, or UAN.

The UAN serves as a unique identifier that tracks all EPF accounts associated with an individual, regardless of how many jobs they have held. By using this single reference number, employees can access a comprehensive view of all their provident fund accounts and their respective balances across different employers and periods of employment.

Consolidating scattered EPF balances into a single account offers several practical advantages for account holders. It streamlines fund management, eliminates confusion about account locations, and ensures contribution continuity when transitioning between jobs. The unified account also simplifies withdrawal processes and provides clearer visibility into total retirement savings accumulated over a career.

Employees can initiate the consolidation process by logging into the EPFO's online portal using their UAN credentials. The procedure allows seamless transfer of funds from old accounts to the current active account, with the process typically completed within a specified timeframe. Workers are advised to regularly monitor their UAN status to ensure all employment periods are properly recorded and accounts are appropriately merged.
