Traditional family planning methods still used by over 14% of Filipinos

MANILA — More than one in seven Filipinos continue to rely on traditional family planning methods including withdrawal and calendar-based approaches, according to data released by the Commission on Population and Development (CPD) on Thursday.
The 14.1 percent figure represents Filipinos who depend solely on these conventional techniques rather than modern contraceptive options, the CPD's Information Management and Communications Division chief Mylin Mirasol Quiray said.
The persistence of traditional methods underscores a gap in contraceptive access and awareness among segments of the population, even as the nation has witnessed steady growth in modern contraceptive use over recent years.
The CPD data highlights ongoing challenges in family planning education and access to modern contraceptive methods across the Philippines, suggesting continued need for public health initiatives to expand awareness and availability of evidence-based reproductive health options.
