Train cancellations stall eye treatment for four-year-old in Uttar Pradesh

Chotlal of Sonbhadra district has been transporting his young son Neeraj to Delhi for specialised eye care over the past year, with the child undergoing regular treatment at Swarup Rani Hospital. However, the cancellation of train services operating between Varanasi and Delhi has left the family in a precarious situation, forcing them to wait at the railway station with limited options.

As a daily wage labourer, Chotlal faces an untenable choice: remain at the station awaiting service resumption or return home and suspend his son's critical medical care. The family's financial constraints make alternative travel arrangements unfeasible, compounding the challenge of accessing specialist treatment in the capital.

The interruption to rail services has disrupted the child's medical schedule, adding uncertainty to his ongoing treatment course. Medical continuity is essential in ophthalmological care, particularly for paediatric cases requiring regular monitoring and intervention.

The situation underscores the difficulties faced by economically disadvantaged families attempting to access specialist healthcare services, particularly when dependent on public transportation infrastructure that remains subject to disruptions.
