TransCo tackles Mindoro outages with improved grid monitoring

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — The National Transmission Corporation (TransCo) is intensifying its response to persistent power supply challenges in Mindoro, deploying enhanced grid monitoring systems and strengthening coordination mechanisms with electricity generators and distribution utilities.

Residents and businesses across Oriental and Occidental Mindoro currently endure two to three power interruptions daily, a situation TransCo has identified as requiring immediate intervention. Officials say the enhanced monitoring capabilities will enable faster detection and resolution of grid faults, thereby reducing the duration and frequency of outages.

The state-owned transmission operator is working closely with the Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative (ORMECO) and other distribution partners to streamline communication channels and improve response protocols. TransCo has committed to providing real-time data sharing and coordinated troubleshooting procedures with generators and utilities serving the region.

The initiative reflects broader efforts to strengthen power infrastructure in the Visayas and Mindanao grid, which has struggled with reliability issues in recent years. TransCo officials indicated that the measures represent an interim solution while longer-term infrastructure upgrades are being planned for the island provinces.
