MANILA — A prominent transport advocacy group has voiced strong opposition to Vince Dizon's reappointment as Department of Transportation secretary, contending that the leadership reassignment signals a troubling policy direction.
Mody Floranda, national president of Piston, issued the statement Monday expressing skepticism about what Dizon's continued leadership would deliver for the nation's public transportation system. Floranda argued there was little cause for optimism regarding the move, which follows a recent government reorganization.
The transport group's concerns center on concerns that Dizon's reappointment will facilitate the implementation of programs it views as counterproductive to improving public transit infrastructure and services for commuters.
Dizon's return to the transportation portfolio comes as the Marcos administration continues adjusting its cabinet structure. The DOTr oversees major infrastructure projects and regulatory frameworks affecting roads, rail, aviation, and maritime transport across the Philippines.
Piston, which represents transport workers and operators, has previously engaged with transportation officials over policies affecting the sector's operations and public service quality.
