Conflicting analyst assessments have emerged following Trent's second-quarter results, reflecting divergent views on the retail company's near-term trajectory and valuation.
HSBC raised its target price on Trent to Rs 3,480, signalling confidence in the company's performance and growth potential. The move contrasts sharply with assessments from other major brokerages tracking the stock.
Citigroup adopted a more cautious stance, cutting its target price to Rs 2,815 while maintaining a Sell rating on the shares. Jefferies also lowered its price target on Trent, joining the chorus of brokerages reducing their valuations. Bernstein, however, bucked the trend by maintaining an Outperform rating, suggesting selective support for the retailer despite the mixed market sentiment.
The divergence in analyst recommendations underscores the market's uncertainty regarding Trent's near-term performance and the sustainability of its current valuation multiples. Investors will likely await further quarterly results and management commentary to gauge whether the company can justify the premium valuations or whether near-term headwinds justify the more cautious outlooks.
