Tripura postpones Social Register update to sidestep poll clash
Tripura has deferred its Social and Income Register (SIR) process to avoid coinciding with upcoming urban local body elections. The enumeration phase was originally scheduled to run from November 6 to December 5.

The Tripura administration has decided to postpone the Social and Income Register (SIR) update process, citing potential conflicts with the scheduled urban local body polls in the state. The decision comes as officials seek to manage administrative resources and avoid operational complications during the election period.
The SIR enumeration phase was initially set to commence on November 6 and conclude by December 5. During this period, authorities planned to distribute pre-filled enumeration forms to households, provide assistance to residents in completing the forms, and subsequently collect the completed documents.
The Social and Income Register serves as a crucial database for identifying beneficiaries of various social welfare schemes and targeted government programs. The postponement indicates that state officials have determined that proceeding with the enumeration exercise simultaneously with urban local body elections would strain administrative capacity and potentially compromise the quality of data collection.
A revised schedule for the SIR process is expected to be announced after the conclusion of the urban local body elections. The deferment reflects the administration's effort to ensure dedicated focus on both the electoral process and the enumeration exercise when conducted separately.
