A group of smugglers attacked three BSF personnel during a patrol operation in Tripura, officials said on Tuesday. The confrontation occurred as security forces attempted to intercept suspected smuggling activity along the border region.
During the pursuit, the smugglers scattered in multiple directions to evade capture. Despite their dispersal, BSF teams successfully apprehended one individual identified as Hefzur Rahman approximately 400 metres from the initial point of confrontation. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack and the identity of other suspects who escaped.
Tripura Chief Minister condemned the incident and announced the state government's commitment to taking stringent measures against smuggling networks operating in the region. The attack underscores ongoing security challenges along Tripura's porous borders, where cross-border smuggling remains a persistent concern.
The three BSF jawans have been accounted for, and investigations into the incident are continuing. Authorities have intensified surveillance operations in the area to prevent further smuggling attempts.
