Tropical depression looms as weather system approaches Philippines
A low pressure area currently outside the Philippine area of responsibility is expected to enter the country's weather zone and strengthen into a tropical depression by late week, the state weather bureau said Monday. The southwest monsoon will continue to dominate weather patterns across the archipelago.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the low pressure area could enter the Philippine area of responsibility as early as Tuesday or Wednesday, with the potential to develop into a tropical depression by Thursday or Friday. The system is being monitored as it moves across the region. In its early morning weather forecast, the bureau noted that the southwest monsoon, locally known as the habagat, is expected to persist over the coming days, bringing moisture and potentially heavy rainfall to western sections of Luzon and the Visayas. Residents in coastal and low-lying areas are advised to monitor weather updates closely as the system develops. The public weather bureau continues to issue regular forecasts to track the movement and intensity of the approaching weather system.
