The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its morning weather forecast that Severe Tropical Storm Choi-Wan, currently positioned outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), may intensify further as it moves westward.
While the storm itself is not expected to enter Philippine waters, its trough will bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over portions of the Visayas and Mindanao on Friday, the state weather bureau reported.
Pagesa continued to monitor the storm's development, noting that conditions remain favorable for further intensification into a typhoon category system. However, the agency emphasized that the tropical cyclone's projected path will keep it beyond the Philippine area of responsibility in the coming days.
Residents in the Visayas and Mindanao regions have been advised to prepare for possible heavy downpours as the trough's moisture-laden winds influence local weather conditions. Pagasa urged the public to stay updated on weather bulletins for any changes in the system's forecast track and intensity.
