Tropical Storm Pilandok weakens as monsoon rains drench Philippines

Tropical Storm Pilandok has decelerated slightly as it tracks east-northeastward over the Philippine Sea, the state weather bureau reported Wednesday morning. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the weakening system remains a weather concern for several regions, though conditions are gradually improving as the storm moves away from major population centers.

The southwest monsoon, locally known as the habagat, continues to dominate weather patterns across Luzon and the Visayas, bringing moisture-laden winds and scattered rainfall to multiple provinces. Weather forecasters cautioned residents in affected areas to remain alert for localized flooding and landslides, particularly in low-lying and mountainous terrain where heavy downpours are possible.

Pagasa's early morning forecast indicated that the combined effect of the weakening tropical storm and the prevailing monsoon system will gradually ease later in the week as high pressure systems move into the region. Residents are urged to monitor official weather updates as conditions continue to evolve, with the agency maintaining regular forecasts throughout the day.
