LUCENA CITY — A fatal road accident claimed the life of a truck driver in Quezon province on Wednesday evening after his vehicle's brakes failed on a downhill stretch. The incident occurred in Barangay Butanyog, Mulanay town, at approximately 7:30 p.m., according to local police reports.

The 55-year-old driver was operating the truck as it descended the roadway when the braking system malfunctioned, leaving him unable to control the vehicle. The truck subsequently veered off the road and struck a large tree with considerable force.

Two additional occupants of the vehicle sustained injuries from the impact and were transported for medical treatment. Authorities have launched an investigation into the accident, with initial findings pointing to mechanical failure as the primary cause of the collision.

The incident marks another traffic fatality in the Calabarzon region and has renewed concerns about vehicle maintenance standards and road safety protocols in the area.
