LUCENA CITY — A fatal road accident claimed the life of a young truck helper Thursday along the bypass road in Gumaca, Quezon province, authorities said Friday. The truck driver and a second helper sustained injuries in the collision, which occurred when the vehicle apparently suffered brake failure before overturning.
The Quezon police identified the fatality as a 24-year-old truck helper. Investigators determined that mechanical failure, specifically brake malfunction, was the likely cause of the accident.
The cargo truck was transporting approximately 1,200 live chickens stored in 200 plastic crates at the time of the incident. The exact circumstances surrounding how the brake failure occurred remain under investigation by local authorities.
Police have not disclosed the identities of the injured driver and helper or the extent of their injuries. Further details on the investigation were not immediately available.
