The incident occurred in Sergio Osmeña town when the truck tried to cross the Yabo River amid heavy rainfall that triggered flash flooding in the area. The combination of swift currents and the force of the floodwaters proved too powerful for the vehicle to navigate safely, causing it to overturn.
According to reports compiled the following day, the truck's passengers and crew managed to evacuate from the overturned vehicle without sustaining injuries. Local authorities did not immediately report the extent of cargo damage or whether the vehicle required specialized equipment for recovery.
The incident underscores ongoing concerns about road safety during the rainy season in Mindanao, where rivers and waterways prone to flash flooding pose hazards to motorists. Authorities typically issue warnings to commuters about crossing flooded waterways, though many drivers continue to attempt such crossings out of necessity or familiarity with local routes.
