Truck rental rates stay resilient on festive season demand surge

Truck rental rates maintained their firmness across India's key trunk routes in August, driven by elevated demand coinciding with the festive season. Year-on-year comparisons showed gains across all major corridors, reflecting sustained freight movement and logistics activity as businesses ramped up operations ahead of the festival calendar.

The resilience in rental rates contrasted with broader vehicle sales trends, which showed sequential moderation in August after stronger performance in preceding months. Dealers and fleet operators reported that while overall commercial vehicle sales cooled from their July peaks, the rental segment remained buoyant due to continued demand for logistics services during the peak trading season.

Electric vehicle sales, however, demonstrated sustained momentum, maintaining strong annual growth rates despite the broader slowdown in the commercial vehicle market. The segment's expansion reflects growing industry adoption of cleaner technologies, even as conventional truck rentals continued to be the primary driver of logistics capacity across long-haul routes.

Market analysts attributed the divergence between rental rates and vehicle sales to seasonal demand patterns and fleet utilization cycles.
