Trump Acknowledges Iran Conflict Cost Republicans Election Votes
Former US President Donald Trump conceded that military action against Iran contributed to Republican losses in recent midterm elections, though he maintained the intervention was necessary and would be repeated if needed.

Donald Trump acknowledged on Wednesday that the conflict with Iran had taken a political toll on his party's electoral performance, attributing the impact largely to short-term fuel price increases. When questioned about remarks from Vice President J.D. Vance linking the Iran war to Republican midterm losses, Trump told reporters the assessment was "largely true."
Despite the electoral setback, Trump adopted a defiant stance on the military action itself. "If I had it to do again, I'd have to do it again," he said, characterizing the intervention as "the only answer" for long-term strategic interests. He cited concerns over Iran's nuclear capabilities as a justification for continued military pressure.
Trump insisted the administration would not alter its approach to the conflict, claiming the campaign had severely degraded Iran's military infrastructure. "We've totally broken their military. The navy's gone. Their air force is gone. Their anti-aircraft is gone," he stated, underscoring the military objectives achieved through the campaign.
The former president's comments reflect the political calculation facing Republican leadership, as they grapple with the tension between foreign policy decisions and domestic electoral consequences. Trump's willingness to defend the Iran operations despite acknowledged electoral costs suggests the party views the military strategy as justified by broader geopolitical imperatives.
