Trump appoints Katie Zacharia as new White House press secretary
US President Donald Trump has named Katie Zacharia, a communications adviser at his media company, to replace Karoline Leavitt as White House press secretary. The announcement was made on Trump's Truth Social platform on Friday.

Zacharia, a conservative commentator for Trump Media & Technology Group, which operates the Truth Social platform, will assume the role following Leavitt's departure on August 27. Trump described Zacharia as "a loyal and brilliant supporter, right from the beginning" in announcing the appointment on his preferred social media channel.
The incoming press secretary brings varied experience in political communications and media. She previously served as a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security earlier this year and has worked as a commentator for Fox News and Newsmax. Zacharia has also been involved in Trump's presidential campaigns, particularly in swing states, according to the president's statement.
Zacharia holds a law degree from Pepperdine University, according to her LinkedIn profile. She was not immediately available for comment on her new appointment. Leavitt, who had held the position for several months, announced her departure on August 12 before formally leaving the White House on August 27.
