Trump asks court to block BBC's access to family records in defamation suit

Trump's attorneys filed arguments with a federal judge in Miami on Friday opposing the BBC's attempt to secure testimony and materials from daughter Ivanka Trump, son-in-law Jared Kushner, and son Donald Trump Jr. in connection with the high-profile defamation case.

According to the filing, the BBC is employing the subpoena requests as a form of "politically-driven leverage" against the former president. The matter now rests with US District Judge Jeffrey Kuntz, who took over the case less than a week ago from another judge. The reassignment reason was not immediately disclosed in court documents. A trial date of February has been set by the previous judge.

The BBC's efforts to serve subpoenas on the Trump family members have faced obstacles, including an earlier attempt in May when a process server encountered Secret Service agents at Ivanka Trump and Kushner's residence. Judge Kuntz has not yet ruled on Trump's motion to block the BBC's request for access to the family members' records and testimony.
