Trump attacks Supreme Court over mail-in voting decision

President Donald Trump on Tuesday criticized the Supreme Court following its rejection of his push to implement stricter controls on mail-in voting ahead of the midterm elections. In a social media post, Trump expressed displeasure with justices who opposed his position, suggesting they were not individuals he would have selected for the bench.

The dispute represents the latest instance of Trump publicly challenging Supreme Court decisions, particularly those made by justices he himself appointed. His administration has previously clashed with the court over rulings on birthright citizenship and his authority to impose tariffs without congressional approval.

The Trump administration had sought to expand the role of the US Postal Service in determining mail-in ballot eligibility for the November 3 midterms. However, state election officials argued that implementing such changes would be logistically unfeasible given the proximity to election day. Officials also contended that existing electoral systems were already secure and functioning effectively.

In an emergency order issued late Monday, the Supreme Court declined to support the administration's efforts to restrict mail-in voting access. The decision effectively upheld state authority over electoral processes, preventing the proposed federal intervention in ballot distribution mechanisms.
