Trump calls for Ukraine leadership change, blames Zelenskyy for failed peace efforts

Speaking at the White House on Saturday, Trump stated that Ukraine should seek alternative leadership capable of achieving a negotiated settlement. "I suggest they get a new leader who can make a deal," Trump said, adding that Zelenskyy "for some reason never does."

The US President contended that the Russia-Ukraine conflict was preventable and should never have begun. "If I had been president in 2022, that war would have never started," Trump said, attributing the war's outbreak to what he characterized as incompetence.

Trump cited the scale of casualties and territorial losses as evidence of failed leadership. He noted that Ukraine has lost approximately 30 percent of its territory and suffered millions in combined casualties across both warring nations. "That's a war that should have never started," Trump remarked. "And I think it's time for Ukraine to get a new president."

The remarks underscore Trump's longstanding position that the Ukraine conflict could be resolved through diplomatic negotiations rather than military means. His criticism of Zelenskyy's leadership reflects his broader skepticism toward extended US military aid to Kyiv and his preference for rapid diplomatic solutions to the ongoing war.
