Trump calls on Apple to rename Lake Ontario as 'Lake America'

Donald Trump has publicly called on Apple Inc. to rename Lake Ontario to 'Lake America' on its maps service, citing what he describes as a need to recognise American geography and sovereignty. The request was made as Trump continues to advocate for what he characterises as a reassertion of American influence across various sectors, including technology and digital services.

Lake Ontario, one of the five Great Lakes, is shared by the United States and Canada, with the Canadian province of Ontario bordering the eastern portions of the water body. The lake's current name derives from its historical designation and geographic association with Ontario. Apple Maps, which competes with Google Maps as a major navigation and mapping service, currently displays the lake under its established international name.

Apple has not yet responded publicly to Trump's request. The technology company typically follows internationally recognised geographic nomenclature in its mapping applications, adhering to standards established by various international bodies and local authorities.

The proposal has drawn attention as an example of ongoing discussions in the United States regarding national identity and representation in corporate and digital spaces.
