TTD official donates indigenous cattle to Gosamrakshanasala sanctuary

The Additional Executive Officer of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), Venkaiah Chowdary, presented five indigenous cattle to the Gosamrakshanasala (cow sanctuary) in a donation ceremony held in Andhra Pradesh. The presentation of fodder to the animals symbolised the solemnisation of the gift.

The donation reflects the TTD's broader initiative to support conservation efforts for native cattle breeds, which are increasingly threatened by the prevalence of commercial dairy farming across India. Indigenous cattle varieties are adapted to local climatic conditions and possess disease-resistant properties suited to the region.

Gosamrakshanasala facilities across India serve as custodians for abandoned, aged, and injured cattle, providing them shelter and sustenance. Such sanctuaries play a critical role in preserving native livestock genetics while promoting traditional animal husbandry practices.

The TTD's contribution comes as religious and cultural organisations increasingly recognise their role in environmental stewardship and animal protection. The donation aligns with traditional Hindu values emphasising cow protection, a practice deeply embedded in temple administration and broader spiritual communities across South India.
