Tuas Checkpoint to close car lanes for automated immigration system rollout

The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) will begin phased implementation of the automated clearance system at Tuas Checkpoint next month, necessitating temporary closures of certain vehicle lanes during installation and testing phases.
The new technology streamlines the immigration process for car travellers by enabling them to complete necessary clearance procedures while remaining in their vehicles. This represents a significant upgrade to border operations at Singapore's western land crossing, which handles substantial daily traffic to and from Malaysia.
The ICA has advised motorists to expect potential delays during the transition period and recommends allowing additional time for their journey through the checkpoint. Specific lane closure schedules and duration details will be announced closer to the implementation date.
The automated system forms part of Singapore's broader modernisation efforts at its checkpoints, aimed at enhancing efficiency and reducing congestion at key border crossing points.
