Tuas Power to develop hydrogen-ready plant by 2031

Singapore's energy sector is taking a significant step toward decarbonization with Tuas Power's commitment to develop a hydrogen-ready power generation facility by 2031. The project forms part of broader efforts to position the island nation as a regional clean energy hub while maintaining energy security.

The hydrogen-ready designation means the facility will be capable of blending hydrogen with natural gas or transitioning to hydrogen fuel in future operations. This flexibility allows power plants to reduce carbon emissions progressively as hydrogen production and distribution infrastructure matures across the region.

Once operational, the Tuas Power plant will contribute to Singapore's growing portfolio of hydrogen-compatible energy assets. By 2032, the city-state is expected to have at least 11 hydrogen-ready natural gas power plants in operation, demonstrating significant infrastructure investment in cleaner energy technologies.

The development aligns with Singapore's broader climate commitments and regional energy transition goals. As regional demand for clean energy solutions continues to grow, hydrogen-ready facilities offer a practical bridge between conventional natural gas infrastructure and fully renewable energy systems, allowing for gradual emissions reductions without disrupting existing power supply chains.
