TuJu designed as toll highway service, not Waze competitor: LLM

The Land Land & Mines Ministry has moved to address concerns about the positioning of TuJu, Malaysia's homegrown navigation application, amid a wider government push to increase its adoption among motorists.

Ministry chair Hasni clarified that TuJu was designed primarily as a supplementary service for toll expressway users, rather than to rival established navigation apps such as Waze. The application aims to enhance the user experience for those utilising Malaysia's tolled highway network by providing specific features tailored to their needs.

The clarification appears designed to manage expectations about the app's scope and capabilities as government efforts to promote local digital solutions intensify. Officials have emphasised that TuJu complements rather than competes with existing mapping and navigation platforms already in widespread use across the region.

The distinction underscores the ministry's strategic approach to rolling out the application, focusing on its utility for highway users while positioning it within Malaysia's broader digital innovation landscape.
