KUALA LUMPUR — The government is moving forward with plans to enhance TuJu, the locally developed navigation application, by significantly expanding its coverage beyond current highway routes to include ordinary roads nationwide.
The Digital Minister announced the expansion initiative, positioning the enhancement as part of broader efforts to strengthen Malaysia's digital infrastructure and reduce reliance on foreign navigation platforms. The upgrade will require coordination between various government agencies and infrastructure bodies to integrate road data into the app's mapping system.
TuJu was originally developed to provide Malaysians with a locally-owned alternative to international navigation applications. By extending coverage to secondary and tertiary roads, the app aims to serve users across both urban and rural areas, improving accessibility for commuters who frequently travel on non-expressway routes.
The expansion represents a strategic investment in Malaysia's digital economy and supports the government's vision of developing world-class homegrown technology solutions. Officials indicated that the enhanced version would be rolled out in phases, beginning with high-traffic ordinary roads before expanding to cover the entire network.
The initiative reflects growing recognition of the importance of comprehensive navigation services to the country's transportation efficiency and digital competitiveness in the region.
