Turkey to provide defensive support to Saudi Arabia against Houthis
Ankara has pledged to send technical and defensive assistance to Riyadh as part of efforts to counter Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi militant group. The commitment comes after Turkey and Pakistan affirmed their collective defence obligations within a newly established alliance framework.

Turkey will dispatch primarily defensive and technical support to Saudi Arabia to bolster its campaign against Yemen's Houthi movement, according to statements from officials in Ankara and Riyadh on Wednesday.
The NATO member's pledge follows recent declarations by Turkey and Pakistan to honour mutual defence commitments under their newly formed alliance. The arrangement underscores regional efforts to address security challenges posed by Houthi operations, which have repeatedly targeted Saudi Arabian infrastructure and military installations.
Official details regarding the specific nature and scope of Turkey's technical assistance remain limited. However, the support is characterised as primarily defensive in nature, suggesting a focus on protective capabilities rather than offensive military operations.
The development reflects broader regional security cooperation aimed at countering Iranian influence in the Arabian Peninsula, where the Houthis maintain significant operational capacity despite years of Saudi-led military intervention in Yemen's ongoing civil conflict.
