Tushar Gandhi Named in FIR After Mumbai Election Protest

Mumbai police registered a case against a dozen individuals, including Tushar Gandhi, great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, in connection with a protest held in the financial capital. The demonstration was organized by the civil society group Hum Bharat Ke Log to express solidarity with ongoing agitations in Delhi led by the Communist Party of India and allied leftist organizations.

The protesters called for the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and other senior officials from India's electoral body. The exact grounds for the police action and specific charges in the FIR were not immediately detailed by authorities.

Police personnel detained approximately 600 demonstrators during and following the protest. All detainees were subsequently released, with no formal arrests reported at the time of the incident.

The Mumbai demonstration reflected broader concerns raised by opposition parties and civil society groups regarding the functioning of the Election Commission. Similar protests had been witnessed in Delhi, where the issue gained traction among left-aligned political movements and grassroots organizations.
