Tusker electrocuted after contact with live power wire in Madhya Pradesh

A tusked elephant was electrocuted and died after making contact with live electrical wiring in Malkapur village, Mauganj district in Madhya Pradesh. The incident highlighted the ongoing challenges posed by inadequate electrical safety measures in wildlife habitats adjacent to human settlements.

The elephant's death occurred when it raised its trunk and contacted the exposed power line, delivering a fatal electric shock. The animal died at the scene following the high-voltage contact.

Following the fatality, teams from the Sanjay Tiger Reserve were mobilized to locate and rescue another elephant reportedly in the vicinity. The rescue operation underscored concerns about elephant-human conflict in the region and the risks posed by uninsulated electrical infrastructure in areas frequented by wildlife.

Authorities have not yet released statements regarding measures to prevent similar incidents or the installation of safety mechanisms on power lines running through wildlife zones.
