Tusker Pallattu Brahmadathan laid to rest after lightning strike in Kerala

The tusker Pallattu Brahmadathan was cremated on Wednesday near the Pallattu house at Melambara in Pala district following completion of a post-mortem examination. The elephant had succumbed to injuries sustained from a lightning strike, a tragic incident that claimed the life of the well-known animal.

The cremation proceedings were conducted at a designated plot adjacent to the Pallattu residence. The post-mortem examination, conducted prior to the final rites, helped establish the cause of death and ensured proper protocols were followed in handling the remains of the tusker.

Pallattu Brahmadathan had been a notable elephant in the region, and its death has prompted discussions about wildlife safety during monsoon seasons when lightning strikes pose significant risks to animals in forested and open areas. The incident underscores the challenges faced by both domestic and wild elephants during severe weather conditions in Kerala.
