TVET graduates urged to create jobs, not chase them

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 12 — The Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) has urged technical and vocational education and training (TVET) graduates to pivot toward entrepreneurship rather than compete for existing positions in the job market.

During remarks at a graduation ceremony in Putrajaya, ministry officials noted that 97 percent of TVET graduates successfully secured employment, underscoring the strong market demand for skilled technical workers. However, officials encouraged the cohort to consider launching their own ventures to drive economic growth and create opportunities for others.

The ministry outlined various support mechanisms available to TVET graduates seeking to establish businesses or pursue further advancement. These initiatives are part of broader efforts to position Malaysia's technical education sector as a pathway to both stable employment and entrepreneurial success.

The push reflects a strategic shift in how policymakers view the role of vocational graduates in the economy. Rather than solely filling existing vacancies, officials see TVET-trained professionals as potential innovators and job creators capable of addressing skills gaps and emerging industry needs.

KBS continues to strengthen partnerships with industry stakeholders to ensure curriculum alignment with market demands and to provide graduates with mentorship and financial support for business ventures.
