Tamil Nadu Minister K G Arunraj on Thursday clarified that the Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) is not engaged in a systematic effort to attract legislators from the AIADMK or other opposition parties.
Speaking to media personnel at Kilpauk Medical College in Chennai, Arunraj stated the party has set no numerical targets for poaching opposition members. The remarks come amid intense political activity in the state as various parties position themselves ahead of upcoming electoral contests.
While reiterating that TVK is not actively pursuing defections, Arunraj suggested the party would take a pragmatic approach should sitting legislators voluntarily switch allegiances. The minister's comments reflect TVK's strategy of building its organizational base through direct recruitment and grassroots engagement rather than relying on established politicians switching sides.
The clarification underscores the evolving political dynamics in Tamil Nadu, where the AIADMK faces questions about its electoral viability following recent internal disputes and leadership transitions. TVK, which has emerged as a significant political force in the state, has focused on consolidating its position through organisational expansion and ideological positioning.
