TVK plans ECI complaint over Stalin's remarks on Dharapuram candidate

A minister from Tamil Nadu's Pattali Makkal Katchi (TVK) announced plans to file a formal complaint with the Election Commission of India against remarks made by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin concerning the party's candidate in Dharapuram. The TVK minister alleged that Stalin's comments constituted improper conduct during the electoral process and warranted intervention from the poll authority.

The dispute marks an escalation in tensions between the ruling DMK and the relatively new TVK, which has emerged as a political force in Tamil Nadu's fractious political landscape. The minister accused the DMK of adopting tactics reminiscent of the opposition AIADMK, claiming the party's strategy would compromise democratic principles.

The minister further alleged that the DMK's approach suggested it could eventually align with the Bharatiya Janata Party in the run-up to the 2029 state elections. Such a prospect would represent a significant political realignment in Tamil Nadu, historically dominated by regional parties and Dravidian ideology.

The complaint underscores the intensifying competition between regional parties ahead of the next electoral cycle, with smaller players like TVK attempting to carve out political space in a state where national parties have gradually increased their influence.
