TVK to formalise Tamil Nadu alliance with Congress, IUML, VCK, MDMK

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and TVK president C. Joseph Vijay will convene alliance partners on September 9 to formally structure an existing political coalition in the state, according to party sources.

The discussions will involve leaders of the Congress, Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), and Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK). While these parties have been functioning as a bloc, the formal consolidation of the alliance marks a significant political development in Tamil Nadu.

The formalisation of the alliance comes as state politics continues to evolve following the 2024 electoral cycle. By bringing together parties with overlapping constituencies and ideological alignment, the coalition aims to strengthen its position in the state's political landscape.

The meeting is expected to outline the framework for future coordination among the alliance partners, including potential seat-sharing arrangements and joint policy positions. Such formal alliances typically precede state and national electoral contests, enabling constituent parties to maximise their combined electoral strength.
