Twelve Bangladeshi nationals arrested in Assam; trafficking ring suspected

Police detained twelve Bangladeshi nationals in Goalpara district during an operation targeting illegal border crossings and potential human trafficking networks. The arrests were made following intelligence reports of suspicious movement along established smuggling routes in the region.

Investigating officers said preliminary interrogation of the detainees suggested involvement of an organized trafficking syndicate. The group's intended destination and the methods used to facilitate their entry into Indian territory are currently under examination.

Assam shares a 267-kilometre border with Bangladesh, which has repeatedly emerged as a focal point for infiltration and trafficking operations. Authorities have intensified surveillance along vulnerable crossing points, though enforcement challenges persist due to terrain and limited resources.

The arrested individuals have been booked under relevant sections of Indian immigration and anti-trafficking laws. Further investigation is underway to identify members of the smuggling network and establish the full scope of their operations. State police have coordinated with border security personnel in the ongoing probe.
