KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 — Twelve areas across Malaysia registered unhealthy air pollutant index (API) readings as of 10am Thursday, signalling a sharp deterioration in atmospheric conditions across the country. Serian in Sarawak emerged as the most severely affected area, recording an API of 194, which falls within the unhealthy range and poses risks to vulnerable populations including children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions.
The widespread spike in API readings across multiple locations underscores ongoing air quality challenges in the region. The unhealthy classification typically warrants advisories for sensitive groups to limit outdoor activities and use respiratory protection where necessary.
Authorities have yet to issue specific measures in response to the elevated readings. Residents in affected areas are advised to monitor official air quality updates and take precautions accordingly. The Malaysian Department of Environment continues to track atmospheric conditions and pollution sources contributing to the current air quality situation.
