Police apprehended the pair during an operation at the airport, where officers discovered the substantial cache of narcotics during routine screening procedures. The seizure represents a significant interdiction in efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
Preliminary investigations indicate that members of the suspected drug syndicate had sourced the contraband from Johor Bahru in peninsular Malaysia. The drugs were subsequently transported by air to Kuching, where they were intended for distribution within the city.
The arrests underscore ongoing concerns about drug trafficking networks operating across state and national borders in Southeast Asia. Authorities have intensified surveillance at major transportation hubs, particularly airports, to intercept narcotics destined for local markets.
The two suspects are currently in custody pending further investigation. Police say additional inquiries are underway to identify other members of the trafficking syndicate and determine the full scope of their operations.
