Two arrested in Bihar for aiding Pakistani operatives' WhatsApp account setup

Authorities in Raxaul, Bihar have arrested two suspects in connection with allegations that they facilitated Pakistani operatives in setting up WhatsApp accounts using Indian phone numbers. The arrests were made following a joint investigation by Bihar Police and Andhra Pradesh Police, who identified the accused as intermediaries in the scheme.

According to police records, the suspects allegedly obtained one-time passwords (OTPs) from legitimate Indian mobile phone subscribers and shared them with operatives based in Pakistan. These credentials were subsequently used to activate WhatsApp accounts, creating a layer of anonymity for the foreign users and potentially enabling them to conduct illicit communications or coordination across borders.

The investigation revealed a deliberate pattern of cooperation between the local intermediaries and the Pakistani operatives, suggesting a structured operation rather than isolated incidents. Security agencies are probing whether the fraudulent accounts were linked to any larger intelligence or criminal network activities.

The case highlights the vulnerability of digital authentication systems to abuse and the potential security risks posed by the misuse of legitimate Indian telecom services. Investigators are examining call records and financial transactions to trace the full extent of the operation and identify any additional conspirators. The arrested individuals are currently in police custody pending further interrogation.
