Law enforcement and environmental officials conducted a joint operation on October 6 targeting illegal mining activities in two upland barangays of Surigao City. The operation resulted in the arrest of two suspects identified as Emiliano Minglana Solana, 52, of Purok 1, Barangay San Juan, and another individual. Officers seized various pieces of mining equipment during the raids.
The crackdown reflects ongoing efforts by authorities to combat unauthorized small-scale mining operations, which have drawn increasing scrutiny from environmental regulators concerned about resource extraction and land degradation in the region.
The arrested individuals are currently in police custody pending further investigation. The case remains under review by relevant authorities as enforcement actions against illegal mining continue across the Mindanao region.
